Haiku Friday: Mighty Kiddos at the Bat

Take me out to the
Ballgame; take me out waaaaaaay past
My normal bedtime.

Ply me with cotton
Candy — electric blue — and
Hot dogs, hold the bun.

I don’t care if I
See players, umps, dugouts, mitts …
Where’s the ice cream cart?

Root, root, root for the —
Wait, there’s a game going on?
Oh … Vanilla please.

For it’s one, two, three
Desserts — you’ve hit a home run,
At the old ballgame.

What do you remember from your children’s first big sporting event? What do they remember? And do you like cotton candy or do you have to go with the peanuts?

  1. Hilarious!

  2. You’re so awesome with these!
Munchie did okay at her first baseball game until she saw the playground. After that Hubs and I had to squint through the fence of the playground to try to see the game.

  3. I just went to a tour at Fenway Park! Probably my first experience at any ball park since my kids do not play sports in the traditional American sense.

  4. I remember going to the world’s longest cricket match with my dad when I was about 5. It went on and on and on and… we had the best day! x

  5. Funny funny funny. My son is at his first football game RIGHT NOW. Can’t wait to hear all about it.

  6. Funny! My youngest ALWAYS eats the hot dog without the bun, too!

  7. We brought Andrew to his first game when he was 2 months old (couldn’t get a babysitter). He slept right through it! piece of cake. 🙂

  8. Past, present, and future — the highlight of any sporting event for me is soft pretzels and soft drinks! We are bringing our kids tailgating for a college football game this year but have decided they are not yet old enough for an $85 experience (per each) to go inside the stadium! We live three blocks from Wrigley Field but have not ventured a family Cubs outing yet.

Great photo and haiku, as ever.

  9. I’m sitting here singing your praises to my daughter about your haiku prowess! You continue to amaze.

  10. No cotton candy or nuts. Popcorn, baby! My kids choose m&ms. Bella’s first sporting event was a high school football game a few weeks ago. She wanted to be on the field something fierce. Javi’s first real sporting event was a minor league baseball game years ago, but he recently went to an NFL game and fell in love. They smuggled in their own honeybuns. 😉

    • I am all about the smuggling in of scrumptious foodstuffs! =>

  11. I love going to live sporting events. Sometimes for me the game becomes secondary, because I am such a sucker for all of the concessions. Especially artificial cheesy nachos with jalepenos.
