Haiku Friday: It’s a Small World

It’s the little things
That remind me he’s there and
Not here, home with us.

The blue soap sliver
That makes the bathroom smell like
He’s just left for work.

His gray shorts, the ones
That are my favorite to steal
And wear as jammies.

My voice reading that
Story the kids love — no one
Does Grover like him.

His Google Chat dot,
Orange when it used to be
Green. Day is night now.

It’s the little things
That remind me he’s there and
We will be, too. Soon.

What little things remind you of your partner? How do you cope with being apart? And what storybook character’s voice do you do best?

  1. It’s hard being apart. My husband and I did the long-distance marriage thing for a few years when we first got married. We emailed, talked on the phone, and tried to see each other during weekends. Hope you get to be with your other half sooner than later.

  2. aww so hard..all the things that you miss every day. I hope that you guys are together soon.

  3. This is so good. The part about the soap sliver really got to me.
