“Call it a clan, call it a network, call it a tribe, call it a family. Whatever you call it, whoever you are, you need one.” — Jane Howard
It feels like a holiday: My parents are in town; it’s chilly outside; we’re making potato soup and Halloween costumes. But, really, they are here for a much simpler reason. They’re here because we are. Because four months ago we moved 6,000 miles away and we took the grandchildren with us. In these two weeks, we’re trying to cram in as much as we can. There will be plenty of mundane trips to the grocery store, walks to the park, and pizza delivery — even those become exotic in a foreign country. There will be trips to the Iara Valley, the Turda Gorge, and that amazing bakery hidden down a side street. But most of all, there will be hugs, story times, train-track construction, games on Gramy’s iPhone, bowls of popcorn, impromptu dance recitals, and an abundance of laughs and stickers.
